Crystal Eagle aWARD
Since 2009, the Association has awarded the Crystal Eagle Award to someone making contributions to LACAAEA and/or the Community at large. The award is presented at the annual Black History Celebration, which is generally held the last Thursday in February.
Why a Crystal Eagle? The Bald Eagle is a powerful flyer with a wingspan of 79 to 90 inches. It can climb to altitudes of up to 10,000 feet on thermal currents and dive at speeds of 75-99 mph. The eagle is a sacred bird in some North American cultures and its feathers are often used in traditional ceremonies. It is also the national bird of the United States. Eagles do not sweat. Several eagles soaring together is called a “kettle of eagles”. CRYSTAL is known for its clarity, brilliance, and elegance. The Crystal Eagle recipient, therefore, embodies all the characteristics of the eagle and the qualities of crystal.
